The legendary American playwright, screenwriter and actor Sam Shepard needs no introduction. He penned the screenplays for Zabriskie Point (1970) by Michelangelo Antonioni, Paris, Texas (1984) by Wim Wenders, and many other big-screen classics.
In True West, never before staged in Latvia, Shepard explores the relationship between two brothers. Austin is a screenwriter who believes he knows the formula for success and is dying to sell his latest script. His older brother Lee is a drifter, drinker and dreamer, who barges into the writing of Austin’s screenplay with no prior knowledge, but with life experience that proves more valuable than any theoretical formulae. Their shared dream of “their own America” turns into a battlefield.
The production will be directed by the promising Polish-born director Mateusz Staniak, who works in Amsterdam and Brussels, together with a Belgian and Latvian creative team. The performance is co-produced with Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
