A melodrama of an impossible love
Translated from English by Silvija Brice

The Fountainhead (1943), a novel by the celebrated writer Ayn Rand, is one of the most significant literary pieces of the 20th century and a sensational novel. Now enjoying renewed popularity, it is a sharp-eyed, comprehensive and compelling “melodrama of ideas” about impossible love and why selling your soul and compromising personal convictions are not the only paths to success..

Howard Roark is a young, uncompromising architect who refuses to take the easy path – he devotes himself to innovation, independence and excellence. When he enters the jungle of architecture, the media, ideologies and high society, Roark becomes infatuated with Dominique Francon, the beloved of his former friend and rival, Peter Keating.

A tense love triangle develops – one believes in himself, another believes in what is demanded of them, and the third believes in no one. To say “I love you”, someone always has to place themselves at the beginning of the sentence. Someone has to say the word “I”. And does “I” always come first?
